									   STORY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 - State of the world -

  The Earth is where the stage of this story is set, approaching the end of the
22nd century. People's lives and the way society is organised haven't changed
all that much since the beginning of the 21st century. A major thing that has
improved though is that regional inequalities have decreased. The world
population explosion, that was feared, has been avoided due to declining birth
rate, but a new problem has arisen. It shows the weakening of humans as a
species.

  Even in spite of frequent United Nations' interventions, military disputes all
over the Earth have been continuing. On the African Continent, a conflict
between the New National Liberation Front and the White Alliance has been
spreading. Religious conflicts in the Middle East, which had halted border
disturbances and the like for a period of time, have even been resumed. Many
countries are constructing underground shelters in major cities, and as of yet,
the whole situation keeps feeling tense.

  Under these kinds of circumstances, the two major world powers collaborated in
order to prevent the danger of a world war. The United Nations, which had
essentially been changing into a US/ USSR union, attempted to direct the entire
world into unification. As a controlling power against disputes amongst smaller
forces, it had become necessary to transfer the Un Force's headquarters, which
had become the largest force both in quantity and quality. They decided on the
location called the Great Victoria Desert in Australia, which was successfully
revegetated at that time. The main facilities of its headquarters were
constructed deep underground and cut through the bedrock of Uluru. It made the
HQ resemble a subterranean city.

  Then, several years later, aliens invaded all of a sudden. They were powerful
and in spite of the UN forces putting up a valiant fight, the people were
driven away deep underground. As a result, shelters all over the place were
actually made usable.
And so Uluru, which had become the final strategic bastion for humanity, was
like a cemetery. The alien invaders supremacy on the ground was approaching an
end, by accident or by destiny with divine guidance, when they discovered ruins
where a young man was sleeping. He would later be referred to as the
"Dragon's Descendant". This is when "Seed of the Dragon, Dragon's Descendant"
begins.


 - Prologue -

   The humans who were still alive, were forced to live within electronically
cordoned off barriers inside the shelters in order to escape the mysterious
alien invaders. Their attacks increased in force every day, causing mankind’s
living area to gradually move deeper underground. Then one day, when the invaders
already controlled the majority of the land above and their attacks were unable
to extend below ground, perplexing ruins were discovered at a construction site
for the expansion of a deep underground shelter.

The surfaces of the ruins were completely covered with an ancient language they
had never seen before. One section of these inscriptions, which were deciphered
by the analysis of a professor in linguistics, was written something along these
lines:

"A dragon’s descendant sleeps here. If aliens who return here are evil, I will
awaken and a battle will ensue. I hope to continue my sleep in peace forever..."

Even more astonishingly there is a life sign in the centre of those small ruins
that look like a gravestone. After carrying out a careful investigation, inside
some kind of apparatus that is sealed off with multiple layers of seals, they
found an infant sleeping, who clearly seems to be a human. The infant seems to
have a weirdly shaped birthmark on his chest. He was holding on to a small piece
of metal in his hands. The impossible to analyse piece of metal is much like a
mask; similar characters were engraved on its surface as on the outside of the
ruins, and it has something that appears to be a crest to its centre. The
characters on the piece of metal, were impossible to decipher, except for the
words "Key", "Life" and "Origin". It was interesting, there seemed to be
remarkable similarities between the infant’s birthmark and the crest on the
piece of metal.

The infant was transferred from the ruins to a medical facility in the shelter
and grew at an astounding rate and developed into a strong-willed young man in
only half a year. He had learnt the language of humans and told them the story
how he was placed in the ruins in the body of an infant by means of an
artificial treatment. Also he appeared to intuitively feel he himself was a
warrior and there are opposing parties that would ambush him. But he had
forgotten almost all memories of days gone past and complained that he would
need to go above ground to remember them. The only thing he seemed to recollect
about the piece of metal he was carrying, was that it was called the
"Mask of Life" and that it was extremely important to him.

Before he knew it, people started to call this young man the "Dragon’s
Descendant". They hoped he would be Earth’s saviour. So, then they decided to
send him out above ground, having faith that he would bring salvation to
humanity from their woes. Just around that time, the United Forces were busy
developing teleporters for the use of bio-enhanced soldiers as an element in
the project to try and recapture the ground above. It was dangerous to use the
still incomplete teleporter on humans, however with the passage topside
currently being cut off, there was no way to send out the young man except to
use the teleporter. He said he wouldn’t mind taking on any dangers to accomplish
his mission and to regain his memories.

And so, finally special ops were conducted to field test the first teleporter
and "Operation Seed of the Dragon" was put into action.



									FEATURES

 - Full translation of all the texts on all 3 disks (Intro, Main Game, Credits).
 - Updated the title screen, teleport screen and end screen closely fitting
   the original.
 - Implemented translated PCM samples voiced by Vampier working from the
   original routines.
 - New print routine to display the translated text. The texts are no longer
   dependent on Kanji ROM. Also a new variable width font was created.
 - Improvements to the game to remove some small flaws.

  Disk 1 is required to be write enabled. The game updates which areas are
unlocked by saving on disk 1. If you don't have the disk write enabled, it
will most likely not boot.



                                                          ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The monitor select doesn't do anything. It seems to be a planned feature, but
technically it does nothing in the final release.

It's your mission (should you choose to accept it) as the Dragon Warrior to
restore your memories and uncover the true identity of the invaders.

The gauges below the action screen show:
- The Dragon Warrior's HP
- Limb fusion time
- Body fusion time

Both fusion time gauges indicate how much time you have left to use the fused
element with either your limbs or your body. These deplete at a steady
interval.

Below the gauges is a radar, where you can see the enemies.

To the right of the radar, you can see the special ability symbol, the attack
symbol and the equip item that you have selected.

To the left of the radar, you can see a front view of the dragon warrior
and the (current) Dragon Warrior Symbol that is engraved on his chest.


 [Fusion screen]

Limb fusion and body fusion.
When you defeat certain enemies, you get fusion elements (Earth, Water, Wind,
and Fire). The counter for that fusion element will be raised. The max value
for an element is 999. there are 4 levels for each element and some levels
can't be used depending on the number of fusion elements. Combinations with
other elements can be done on a 1 on 1 basis, resulting in 23 patterns in
total. Elements that can be fused with your limbs are circular, while
elements that can fuse with your body are more square with rounded corners.

The special ability symbol displays the special ability you can use depending
on the body you selected.

- Equip items: Shows the items that can be equipped. Only one item can be
  equipped at a time.
- Clear items: Shows the items that are only use in the current area.
- Keys: These can be used to open doors and the like that you can't enter
  without keys.
- Revive items: If you hold one of these items when your HP goes to 0,
  they can restore your HP.

Initial state: release chi to attack at a distance

1 Water: Level 1. Your shots fly in a arc. Also useful for enemies above you.
Flying Water

1 Earth: Level 1. Follows along the floor. Useful in narrow spaces and with
Ground Slash      walking enemies.

1 Wind:    Level 1. Boomerang attack. Hits far away enemies. Can't attack until
Wind Fang  it returns.

1 Fire:        Level 1. Shoots flames. Most powerful of level 1 attacks.
Flying Flame  It doesn't reach far.

2 Water    Level 2. High pressure jet of water.
Flying Water

1 Water 1 Earth Level 1. Bounces of floors, walls and ceilings.
Ricochet

1 Water 1 Wind: Level 1. Water element creates ice particles and wind makes them
Water Fang      fly.

1 Water 1 Fire: Level 1. Opposing elements create a laser like arc of energy.
Slash Wave      Short range, but much damage.

2 Earth		Level 2. Similar to the level 1 version but range and damage
Ground Slash	are greater.

1 Earth 1 Wind  Level 1. Use repulsive force between two opposing elements.
Flying Pair     Shoots forward and backwards at the same time.

1 Wind 1 Fire   Level 1. Fires lava bullets in 8 directions. Useful with enemies
Raging Fire     in the air of above and below you.

2 Wind          Level 2. Similar to the level 1 version but range and damage
Wind Fang       are greater.

1 Wind 1 Fire   Level 1. Fires fire balls in three directions. Forward and
Blazing Flame   diagonally up and down. Long range and high accuracy.

2 Fire          Level 2. Fires fire balls that scatter in 8 directions.
Soaring Flame

3 Water         Level 3. Shoots forwards and floats in place. High Damage, also
Water Wave      blocks enemies route.

3 Earth         Level 3. Shoots lava balls in an arc.
Rock Wave

3 Wind          Level 3. several boomerangs fly. If they hit, they get stuck and
Fang Wave       deal a lot of damage.

3 Fire          Level 3. Shoots a wide flame forward. Range is short but damage
Flying Surge	extensive.

4 Water         Level 4. Fires a mini version of the water dragon and fires
Rising Dragon   backwards.

4 Earth         Level 4. Shots are fired in an arc. They explode on contact.
Shatter

4 Wind          Level 4. Creates tornados from its body and shoots them forward
Untamed Dragon  and a small boomerang shot to the back.

4 Fire          Level 4. Creates multiple fire pillars in front of you and 1
Flame Chain     behind you.


 - Special abilities -

1 Water:       Level 1. This consumes water elements to recover H.P.
H.P. Recovery

1 Earth:       Level 1. This consumes earth elements to create an earthquake where
Earthquake     you stand. It deals damage to all the enemies nearby.

1 Wind:        Level 1. This consumes wind elements to create a barrier around the
Shield         body to withstand damage. The max amount of damage you can block in
               one go is limited.

1 Fire:        Level 1. This consumes fire elements to create a wall of flames
Wall of Flames around your body that deal damage to enemies that come in contact
               with it.

2 Water        Level 2. This summons a water spirit, eradicates all bullets and
Water Dragon   damages enemies. It consumes water elements to call forth the
               spirit, but the damage differs depending on the area due to the
               elements of the location.

1 Water 1 Earth Level 1. This create enormous water pillars in front of you and
Water Column    behind you.

1 Water 1 Wind  Level 1. Enumerable pieces of ice fall from the sky and deal
Ice storm       damage to the enemies.

1 Water 1 Fire: Level 1. Enemies will remain still for a short amount of time.
Stop

2 Earth         Level 2. This summons a earth spirit, eradicates all bullets and
Earth Dragon    damages enemies. It consumes earth elements to call forth the
                spirit, but the damage differs depending on the area due to the
		elements of the location.

1 Earth 1 Wind  Level 1. Enumerable meteorites fall from the sky and deal damage
Rock storm      to the enemies.

1 Earth 1 Fire  Level 1. It turns the ground in a certain range and deals damage
Lava		to the enemies. For a short time after, the enemies' movements
                will be stopped.

2 Wind		Level 2. This summons a wind spirit, eradicates all bullets and
Heaven Dragon   damages enemies. It consumes wind elements to call forth the
                spirit, but the damage differs depending on the area due to the
                elements of the location.

1 Wind 1 Fire   Level 1. This creates lightning to damage enemies. For a short
Lightning       time after, the enemies' movements will be stopped.

2 Fire:         Level 2. This summons a fire spirit, eradicates all bullets and
Fire Dragon	damages enemies. It consumes fire elements to call forth the
                spirit, but the damage differs depending on the area due to the
                elements of the location.


Energy Radiation You can use these by using 3 levels of an element in your body.
                 By letting go of the elements held by the body at once, you can
                 eradicate most enemies. It also removes bullets and the like.


When you use 4 levels of an element and fuse it in your body, your entire body
will change in one of the most extraordinary forms there are. In this state
you cannot use your special abilities, but equally powerful attacks to the
special attacks become available.


 [Key items]

1. Power up items - attack power up
Earth Bangle increases damage to enemies.
Warrior Bangle increases damage to enemies even more
The weaker one (Earth Bangle) also raises your defence power a little.

2. Protection items - defence items
Water Charm reduces damage from enemies.
Holy Charm reduces damage from enemies even more.
The weaker one (Water Bangle) also raises your attack power a little.

3. Heal items - restore H.P.
Water ring: heal while standing still
Ice ring: heal while moving
They may not be effective depending on the location or certain conditions.

4. Jump items - jump power up
Blue Wings: jump higher
Red Wings: jump even higher
(you need to have elements infused to your limbs otherwise these don’t work)

5. Speed items: enemy slow down
Quick Bone: increases dragon warrior's agility and slows down enemy movement
Screw Bone: increases dragon warrior's agility and slows down enemy attack
(you need to have elements infused to your limbs otherwise these don’t work)


 - Elemental Amulets -
Lowers the consumption of elemental parts. There is one for each of the
elements and a 5th one that lowers it for all elements.

Recovery Items example: Pomegranate
Immediately recovers your life
(no text message shown even though there are messages for it.)


 - Clear items -

1. Standard keys    example: Red Keys
You can have a certain number of them in stock and they will be used
automatically when needed. These can only be used in the current area you're in.

2. True Clear items example: Earth Key

Revive items example: Pod of the Heart Tree
When you die, your life is fully restored immediately.
You can only have one at a time.


*SPOILERS*

There is a cheat in this game to unlock all areas from the get go. Boot while
holding ST (as in Turbo-R ST) until the monitor select screen appears.

There also is a cheat that maxes out your armour and weapon powers and it
gives you infinite continues for a level. Hold down ST right after the teleport
sequence (until insert disk 2/3 message appears) to max out your fusion powers.
They won't deplete during this level.

Lastly there is a cheat to open doors that require a key, even if you don't
have said key (it was disabled by the authors). Press I or J while in front of
a door that requires a key (this cheat has been removed from original game and
will be available later on as add-on on the www.msxtranslations.com website.



									CONTROLS

LEFT, RIGHT, UP, DOWN: Move.

		   UP: Open a door or go into door / corridor.

                  ESC: Pause.

	            C: Fire or select an option.

		    X: Jump or cancel an option.

	       RETURN: Select an option.

		SPACE: Cancel an option.

             DOWN + X: use special power of your armour by consuming some of
                       the elemental power you possess.

                   F1: Fusion screen. Select which armour or power up for your
                       limbs you want to use.

                   F2: Item menu. Here you select which items you want to
                       equip, you see which keys you have and if you have
                       revival items.

							 HOW TO APPLY THIS PATCH
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. FutureDisk 50 includes a built-in patcher for this game, located directly on
   the FD50 disk. It is specifically designed to patch MSX floppy disks with IPS
   files.

2. This patch is in the IPS format. That means you need to apply it with an IPS
   patch program. There are many programs to choose from. On a regular MSX you
   can use IPS4MSX.COM (the latest version is always available on MSX IPS Archive
   ips.tni.nl) to patch it on mass storage with diskimages or use the
   FutureDisk 50 built in patcher to patch straight from and to disk. Lunar IPS
   or IPS.EXE for instance do the job nicely on PCs. MAC-users can apply the
   patch with a program like UIPS. But there are many other suitable programs.
   If you're planning to play the translated version on openMSX you don't need
   to patch your DSK files at all. This emulator supports soft patching. Look
   in openMSX' documentation on how to use patches in this way.

3. Make a dump of Seed of the Dragon for MSX turbo R. If you don't know how to
   do this or if you don't have the equipment to do it yourself AND own the
   original disks, then you can get the DSK files available on the internet.
   Be sure you use the patch on a clean dump though. Any changes made to the
   DSK files, like for instance an applied cheat, might result in undesirable
   side-effects after patching. Make a back up of the dumped DSK file just in
   case.

4. Place the IPS program, this patch and the DSKs of Seed of the Dragon you
   want to patch in the same directory. Apply the patch to the appropriate
   files.

5. On an MSX Turbo R the game should work from diskdrive. If you make use of
   a program to load virtual disk images, make sure it supports diskimages
   that are partially file based.
